Joseph Ricketts - pushing boundaries, joins the 2025 expedition team

Updated: 6 days ago

Joseph is always in search of his next novel experience, whether that be pushing his limits with triathlons, marathons and rock climbing, or otherwise putting on a performance down the local pub. Having gained expedition experience in his formative years completing Duke of Edinburgh awards, later backpacking through Europe and now continuing to ‘rough it’ at UK festivals, Joseph is excited by the opportunity to get further outside his comfort zone and explore the Arctic.

2025 Expedition Deputy Leader Mike Haynes noted "Joseph's can do attitude and enthusiasm, coupled with a grounded outlook and seemingly boundless energy, will enable hm to make a significant contribution to the success of the environmental research of the ARG and we're delighted that he's joining the team".

After graduating from the University of Manchester with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Joseph began working as a project manager in the construction industry delivering energy conservation measures to UK retailers across a range of disciplines. This includes managing trials and rollouts of novel and established technologies, as well as the measurement and verification of relevant energy consumption data to verify reported savings. Joseph has a particular interest in reducing the environmental impact of global companies.

Joining the ARG’s 2025 expedition as part of the support team, this will be his first time in the archipelago of Svalbard. He is keen to support the team in achieving their objectives, particularly in contrasting data logging of flora and fauna with that completed in 1983.
