The Arctic Research Group (ARG) is proud to share that our latest expedition to Svalbard has been featured in a six-page spread in BBC Wildlife Magazine. Written by David Pidgeon, a freelance writer who joined the ARG for the most recent expedition, the article offers an immersive account of the journey. It explores close encounters with Arctic wildlife, the challenges of conducting fieldwork in one of the planet’s most remote regions, and the science behind pingos — ice-cored mounds that are degrading as the climate warms, releasing potent greenhouse gases such as methane.
The feature recounts the adventure required for research in such extreme environments while showcasing the fragile beauty of the Arctic. It also highlights the importance of understanding these remote ecosystems and the need to support ongoing scientific efforts.
BBC Wildlife Magazine, one of the world’s most respected publications on nature and conservation, has been inspiring readers for over 60 years with its breathtaking photography, expert journalism, and in-depth exploration of the natural world. The December issue of BBC Wildlife Magazine is available in shops, via digital download, through Readly, or as a single print edition.
