The 2019 Expedition
The interaction between ice and rock was the dominant factor in determining the form and shape of these islands. A combination of very old and very new rocks, together with severe glaciation, made this area both interesting and scientifically important.
79º 30’ North
The protection from severe sea storms from all but Northern winds helped make that area more acceptable to the flora that was sought. However, the location, at almost 79º 30’ North, almost guaranteed a more severe climate than those enjoyed further South.
